Clark Freeport Zone. One thousand five hundred (1500) bags of relief goods, fifty(50) boxes of mineral water, more than one hundred (100) blankets and fifty (50) volunteers were all it took to alleviate the conditions of more than one thousand (1000) families and individuals who were victims of the unprecedented destruction wrought by typhoon Ondoy in Cainta, Rizal province.
Cabinet Sec. Edgardo D. Pamintuan, Chairman and CEO of the Subic-Clark Alliance for Development Council (SCADC), Avelaine Nepomuceno, President of the Angeles City Kuliat Jaycees and Harry Castro, President of the Councilmen’s League of Angeles City(CLAC) led a contingent of volunteers from the Jaycees, CLAC and the offices under Pamintuan, including SCADC, Northrail and the Office of the External Affairs during the distribution of relief goods in Brgy. San Juan, Cainta, Rizal. More than 1500 residents lined up inside the Ynares Multi-Purpose Covered Court to receive their relief packages.
The relief operation, dubbed as “ Sagip Metro Manila at Pampanga: Tulong Angeleno”, was made possible through a three day telethon initiated by Pamintuan, Clark International Airport Corporation(CIAC) EVP Alex Cauguiran and Comclark, which volunteered its TV and cable facilities for the telethon. The organization, coordination and administration were ably handled by the volunteers from the Angeles City Kuliat Jaycees, while members of the CLAC conducted their own fund raising campaign around the city.
This is not the first time that Pamintuan, who is determined to take back the helm of running the city, and the Jaycees partnered for this kind of endeavor. In 2006, Oplan Sagip Bicol was initiated to raise funds and donations to help the victims of typhoon Reming which caused major destructions to lives and properties, mainly in the Bicol region. According to Pamintuan, this is how the people of Angeles would like to pay back the people from all over the country, especially from Metro Manila, who extended their assistance during the dark hours of Angeles City after the Mt. Pinatubo eruption and the rampages of lahar.
Earlier on, the group made a courtesy call on Mayor Ramon Ilagan of Cainta, who expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the assistance being extended to his constituents. The municipality is one of the worst hit Local Government Unit in the Metro Manila and nearby areas. Thousand are still in evacuation centers while the rest of the people are attempting to put back normalcy in their lives. (PRCSCADC)
